Upgrades and season start

I’ve been doing some basic upgrades to my weaponry. My Classic Army XM177E2 desperately needs a new set of wires. The soft silicone wires that it has now have been cracking a lot since I bought it last year around this time and a few weeks ago, one of my batteries was fried because of the bad wiring. So, remeber kids, always make sure you have a solid wiring job on you AEG! Need to get that wiring done before the ‘Nam games start this summer…

My second AEG, Dboys M4 RIS, received an M120 upgrade. This did not go as smoothly as I would’ve wanted. First, I of course forgot that the Dboys box had 7mm bushings. So, the Guarder ones were too small. Ok, so I bought some 7mm bushings and all was good. Second, I had some issues with the anti reversal latch. The damn thing just would not stay put! I eventually used some gear grease to hold it still so that I could close the mechbox. Third, I had some issues with the selector switch; it would not move to Full Auto. I found out that the spur gear was sticking too much out of the mech. I shimmed it low as to release friction between the tappet plate and the sector gear (a hint by an experienced upgrader). Eventually, when all else failed, I just dremeled the damn thing. Works like a charm now. I also had to change the motor to a more powerful one, as the gears did not want to turn at all. First thought that I had shimmed it too tight but turning the gears with my fingers was effortless and they spurred quite a few turns before stopping. New motor, check!

And, since our team (AST Sigma, website address is: http://ast-sigma.fi in English) is heading out to Tampere on May 15th, I got myself a CQB weapon, MP5. Basically, it came with stuff that allows me to change it to just about any variant of the weapon. Still need to get a sliding stock for it and wire it to the front, once I get my Lipo’s. Nice weapon, mixed with CA and TM parts. Loving it. It’s missing the port cover from the upper receiver and a spring from the cocking lever (this was a dissapointment, I would’ve loved to HK slap that bitch!) but I’m hunting for both at the moment.

Summer is coming...slowly

While not true everywhere, winter has taken over the usual green that we like. Though snow is not bad (offers for some very interesting airsoft experiences), it is not the ideal time for Vietnam themed airsoft. Despite this setback, we do not have to “suffer” for long anymore. Though still quite a few months away, here in Finland at least, summer is just around the corner. March is knocking on soon, and the days are getting longer, the sun is shining, and the temperature… well, that is sticking close to -10, but it’s still good!

I have grown my Vietnam collection a little during he winter, but most of my effort has gone on the modern stuff. This will change, though, since summer is the time for ‘Nam. I just got myself an ARVN rucksack, just waiting for it to arrive. Will also continue buying modern stuff, but because of summer, ‘Nam is the thing, again.

Some airsoft pictures. First one is the team picture from Charlie Point 2. I’m the TL at the front. Picture courtesy of Mike.

These shots were taken sometime during the summer when I still had unlimited access to the terrain featured in the images. Now, I have to travel. Damn…

Namsoft

“Fuck it, before it fucks you!” I’ve been refitting an old Fiesta 6 transistor radio with new internals. Well basically, I’ve taken most of the old internals out and placed an MP3 player inside it. I’ve then molded the wire that comes from the earplug connector with the speaker on the transistor radio. Then, I uploaded a full ‘Radio First Termer’ (Get the show and clips from http://www.ibiblio.org/jwsnyder/rft/ ) show by Dave Rabbit and kicked back and enjoyed a bottle (or few) of Beer-33 (available in Finland from well equipped shops).

This radio has been a small experiment that I will most certainly take up again sometime. Currently, it is a crude way of getting some ‘Nam tunes to the events that I will be attending. Future projects will include things like (possibly) real radio listening and stuff like working volume knobs and possibly even working earplug connectors. Charlie Point 2 at Pomarkku is coming closer by the day and I’m getting even more ready for it by the day. I will be posting more here later…
